Academia Raetica strengthens collaboration with the Canton of the Grisons

In March 2009, the Academia Raetica signed a performance agreement with the "Amt für Höhere Bildung" with the purpose to support the Canton of the Grisons in the development of the legal basis for university-based research and education and to strengthen the research activities within the Canton altogether.

It is the purpose of the Academia Raetica to function as a platform organisation for academic research and education in the Canton of the Grisons. The Academia includes the institutions and clinics active in this task. It fosters the collaboration of its members with Universities and Industry in the Canton and the neighbouring regions. It supports the young academics, organizes conferences for science and the general public and it will, among others, assume patronage for medical continuing education and congresses.

The Canton of the Grisons attaches great importance to academic research and education and is dedicated to foster and amplify the already existing research activities by a range of measures. A new cantonal law for the advancement of university-based research should establish the legal basis and ensure that new initiatives in this area can be promoted. The attractiveness of the Canton as home for research and the transfer of knowledge between science and industry should be strengthened in order to generate new jobs in existing or newly founded institutions and companies.
