The goals and mission of the Foundation for Gastroenterological
Surgery are to promote surgical skills to postgraduate surgeons
through courses of one week duration with formal lectures, discussion
groups and most importantly hands- on practical workshops for suturing
techniques and laparoscopic surgery. Presently a research project
studies, if a training of young surgeons with virtual reality simulators
is of any benefit for the patients.
Without the cooperation and support of industry, offering the technical
logistics, these courses could not be organized
The Foundation for Gastroenterological Surgery was created in 1989
after the first hands-on course was initiated in 1984 by a small
group of surgeons. Since then more than 5000 young surgeons have
been trained and educated. The board of the foundation consists
exclusively of University accredited surgeons from all over Europe
who, just as the rest of the faculty are working on a honorary basis.
