The SLF is an interdisciplinary research and service centre that is world-renowned in its field. The scientists study snow and its interaction with the atmosphere, the formation and dynamics of avalanches and other natural hazards in the Alps, permafrost and mountain ecosystems and their response to climate change and the optimisation of avalanche protection measures. They conduct solution-orientated research for people and the environment in a changing world.

The SLF develops concepts, strategies and concrete measures for the protection of the population against natural hazards and the management of risks and sustainable solutions for socially relevant problems - together with its partners from science and society.

The SLF is part of the Federal Research Institute WSL and thus part of the ETH Domain and is committed to excellence in research and implementation. It offers a research position to around 35 Master's and PhD students.

Established in 2021, the CERC is part of the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos.

The research centre CERC focuses on climate change, extreme events and natural hazards in mountain areas. It is supported by the Canton of Grisons and the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL and will be supported by ETH Zurich.
